Previously, Drs. Julie Van Dyke (Chief Scientist at Cascade Reading) and Margie Gillis (Founder of Literacy How) carefully curated several lesson plans designed to introduce the Cascade Format to students via examples designed to both teach the format and the grammatical concepts behind its formatting principles. This lesson plan series was aptly named “The Other Side of the Rope” because it focused on how syntax is what drives language comprehension beyond word-level decoding. To make these lesson plans more accessible for instructors and students, we have now launched a video lesson plan series titled “Introducing the Cascade Format.” The first few videos follow the lesson plans put forth by “The Other Side of the Rope”, but we also extend beyond those lessons to offer a more comprehensive introduction to our revolutionary reading format. This is the first lesson plan series of many planned for the upcoming year. These videos are meant to help, so we’d love to hear from you if you have any ideas of what you’d like to see next! Each video is meant to serve as a small lesson plan that teachers can directly use with their students. In particular, we are planning lesson series related to the following topics:
